Amazon Fire: a $49 tablet
Amazon has been releasing numerous affordable Android tablets for the past few years. But now, they’re going even further with the announcement of the $49 tablet called, simply, the Amazon Fire. For the price, there are actually a decent set of specifications and features.
The Fire will have a 7” IPS display with a resolution of 1024 by 600, which might sound like a low res display but that is a bargain for the price. It will also have a quad-core 1.3 GHz processor as well as 8 GB of internal storage. You can also expand your storage using the microSD slot for up to 128 GB and you can also use Amazon’s unlimited cloud storage to store your files. This tablet will have a VGA front-facing camera as well as a 2 MP rear-facing camera that is capable of 720p video recording. Amazon promises good battery life with 7 hours of reading, browsing, videos, and music.
Amazon Fire Kids Edition
The Amazon Fire Kids Edition is the same Fire tablet but with a kid-proof case, a year of Amazon FreeTime Unlimited, and a 2-year worry-free guarantee. FreeTime Unlimited is a service that offers thousands of educational material from books to games that is managed for age-appropriateness.
This is a great gift for fall and holiday shopping for parents as it brings a true tablet experience with easy parenting guidance for your entertainment-hungry children.
The Amazon Fire Kids Edition will be available for $99.99
Amazon Fire HD: 8” and 10.1”
Amazon has also announced two additions to the Fire HD lineup with new 8” and 10.1” versions. These tablets are essentially packing the same amount of features as the regular Fire tablets but these devices will have HD displays.
These Fire HD tablets will come with either the 8” or 10.1” display (1280 by 800 resolution for both sizes). They will both be equipped with DOLBY ATMOS dual speakers and a quad-core 1.5 GHz processor. While the 8 inch will have an 8 or 16 GB option of onboard storage, the 10.1 inch has options for 16 or 32 GB. Both tablets have microSD slots and so expandability can go up to 128 GB. Also, buyers can take advantage of Amazon’s free unlimited cloud storage. In terms of their cameras, they both have 720p front-facing cameras and 5 MP rear-facing cameras with 1080p video capability.
The Fire HD 8 will be available in 4 colors including Black, Magenta, Blue, and Tangerine while the Fire HD 10 will only be available in Black or White. Amazon is also offering an external keyboard called the Fire HD 10 Keyboard Case that is only compatible with the Fire HD 10.
The Fire HD 8 starts at $149.99 and the Fire HD 10 starts at $229.99. Although these tablets might be steeper in price than the Fire, these devices are still very affordable.
Amazon Fire TV
In order to compete with Apple’s new living room hogging device, the Apple TV, Amazon is introducing the new version of the Amazon Fire TV. This device is apparently 75% more powerful than its predecessor and will support 4K Ultra HD.
There will be a voice-supported remote that will help you navigate the UI and look at any kind of information you are searching for. With Amazon Prime, streaming and purchasing movies and TV shows will be no problem at all. There are also thousands of apps and games ready for your living room and for the price, this may be the ultimate “TV box” for home entertainment.
The Fire TV has a quad-core processor, 2 GB of RAM, 8 GB of storage, and you can expand your storage of up to 128 GB via microSD.
The Fire TV will be available for $99.99.
Amazon Fire TV Gaming Edition
As Apple marketed their new TV towards gaming audience as well as the parents, the Amazon seems to be going even further in this regard with the Amazon Fire TV Gaming Edition.
This edition will come with almost the same amount of specs including the quad-core processor, 2 GB of RAM, and 8 GB of onboard storage. However, this edition will include 32 GB microSD card, 2 games included out-of-the-box, and an Amazon Fire TV Game Controller. This controller has a headphone jack and voice search functionality. This is very similar to the likes of the console controllers, however, that will be a friendly reminder for gamers. You can get this controller as an optional paid accessory if you just purchase the regular Fire TV.
The Amazon Fire TV Gaming Edition will be available for $139.99.
Amazon Fire TV Stick
If you don’t want to spend over $100 for a streaming box and want something similar to Google’s Chromecast, Amazon has an answer for you.
The Amazon Fire TV Stick is a small device that has the portability of a flash drive but the power to actually power your TV with Amazon’s software. It connects onto your TV’s HDMI port and you can use the Stick, the voice-enable remote, to navigate throughout Amazon’s UI and stream from any of your desired apps from Amazon’s app store. With the Fire TV Stick, you can essentially do the same things as the regular Fire TV without the box.
However, the specifications are a bit lacking compared to the rest of the family. The Fire TV Stick will come with a dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, and 8 GB of internal storage (no expandability).
The Amazon Fire TV Stick starts at $39.99
