Samsung announced their newest addition to the Galaxy Note series during the Samsung Unpacked event in New York City last Thursday. Let’s take a look at how this phone looks like and everything else you need to know before you buy it!
The Galaxy Note 5 shows substantial changes from the past Galaxy Note devices and strong similarities with the design of the Galaxy S6.
Unlike the soft polyurethane leather of the Note 4, the Note 5 will feature sleek glass panels for the front and back much like that of the Galaxy S6. There is a slight curve to the edges of the back glass panel that slightly mimics the aesthetics of the Galaxy S6 Edge. However, this glass back will be non-removable which also means a non-removable battery and no microSD slot.
The Note 5 also has super slim bezels along with a metal frame that is smoother and rounder than the metal frame of the Note 4. This will most likely make it easier to grip the device and give it a more premium feel than its previous iterations.
The speaker and headphone jack are now moved to the bottom of the phone along with a USB-C port instead of standard microUSB. The most dramatic change to the design is the new S Pen slot which will now be spring loaded instead of a slide-out method.
The Note 5 will be available in Gold and Black here in the US.
Just like every new iteration of the Note series, the Note 5 will have the highest-end specifications.
The Note 5 will come with a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED Quad HD display with a resolution of 1440 by 2560.
It will be powered by the Exynos 7420, which is essentially a 64-bit octa core processor. The processor is partnered with 4GB of RAM and, in terms of internal storage, there will be 32 or 64 GB versions with no options for expandable memory.
The non-removable battery will only have a capacity of 3,000 mAh but there is support for wireless charging.
The rear-facing camera will be 16 MP with optical image stabilization while the front-facing ‘selfie’ camera is going to be 5 MP.
The Note 5 comes right out of the box with Android Lollipop 5.1.1 along with a new version of TouchWiz, Samsung’s UI skin. The updated UI has new S Pen features as well as the numerous extra gimmicks you can activate in the settings.
All app icons are now square-shaped with round corners and there are some cool new wallpapers just like every new iteration of a Samsung device. Some new convenient features of the new S Pen include the ability to access apps quickly from anywhere using Air Command and also the ability to start drawing even when the screen is off.
There are a whole bunch of other new features that Samsung included with this phone and we can’t wait till we start playing with the device!
The Samsung Galaxy Note 5 will be available for all major U.S. carriers (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint) on August 21st.
You can go preorder this phone right now on your carrier’s website or local retailer.
So what do you think about the Galaxy Note 5? Will you be buying it for its sleek design and big screen size? Or are you disappointed by its lack of memory expansion and its non-removable battery?
